Rebecca
For all you late night surfers. Here's a clip from one of the greatest movies ever, "Rebecca" from 1940. A British gentleman's innocent bride grapples with intrusive reminders of his deceased wife. Starring Laurence Olivier, Joan Fontaine, Judith Anderson, George Sanders, Nigel Bruce, Reginals Denny. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
In this scene the evil Mrs. Danvers, after tricking the new Mrs. de Winter (Joan Fontaine) into wearing Rebecca's old dress at a ball, implores Mrs. de Winter to leave and then almost drives her to suicide.
Now I know that I need a tiny break from campaigning, since the evil Mrs. Danvers kind of reminded me of the way Obama supporters are constantly imploring Hillary to just leave. Enjoy!

Oh man, I enjoy your blog on a regular basis, but when I find that we were both watching the same movie last night, that's just bizarre.
And I had a similar thought -- only I reflected last night that Mrs. Danvers reminded me of all those females throughout history who have blocked the advance of women by themselves stomping on their aspirations, crushing them and using them as stepping stones up some kind of personal ladder, and/or aligning themselves with the males.
What makes the movie great, though, is the performance of Joan Fontaine and the character she plays, as she grows from a shrinking violet sort of girl to a fully confident and take-charge woman.

Thank you motherlode. I realy appreciate that. That's an interesting point about the Mrs. Danvers character. I agree, Joan Fontaine is great in this. Such a beautiful lady. By the way, for those looking at this, please stop by No More Apples when you get a chance, where motherlode has some great postings.
